Description
On Thursday, February 19th, the City of Charlotte’s ADA Program will host a virtual discussion about the ADA, risk-taking, and disability rights.
Have you ever wanted to welcome people with disabilities to your program or event, but worried it would be unsafe? Have you ever had people doubt you or place limitations on your participation in an activity you know you would excel at? If so, February’s ADA webinar is for you!
The “dignity of risk” is a disability rights concept that affirms every person’s right, disabled or able-bodied, to self-determination and to take the risks they are comfortable pursuing. This session will explore how to balance personal and organizational risk with ADA-protected rights to participation and reasonable accommodations.
Topics include: event accessibility, self-advocacy, and the positive outcomes of risk-taking. This event is an opportunity to learn from people with disabilities’ lived experiences, to reflect on the risks we all take and how they empower us, and to build a Charlotte where every person has access to the experiences waiting right outside their door.
