Zulynette (she | ella ) is an award-winning queer, Boricua performer, artist, and accomplished author. Born in Chicago and raised in Hartford, CT, Zulynette’s work is rooted in a deep care and love of her community. After growing up in hard spaces, her work is an invitation to be bold, expansive, and curious about oneself.
As a skilled facilitator with her Masters in Social Work and a Certification in breath work, she incorporates both into her workshops and performances. This results in experiences that activate the senses and creates the brave space for individual and communal healing. In 2026, she was a winner of the Arts & Science Council's Emerging Creators Fellowship to support her exploration in short filmmaking centering poetry and spoken word.
She is the Creator and Director of the annual storytelling event, A Little Bit of Death, and the author of three books of poetry, Becoming a Soft Woman with a Machete (2025), Seeing in the Dark (2022) and Building a Powerhouse (2017). Her work has been featured in They Call Us, the Hartford Courant, Review: Literature and Arts of the Americas, and elsewhere; she has also been featured on-air with Connecticut Public Radio and NBC Connecticut.
